Jain Irrigation bags order for Tarikere integrated irrigation project

Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd, India’s largest micro-irrigation company and agriculture conglomerate, has bagged an order worth Rs 287.66 crore for an integrated irrigation solution project in Tarikere taluka of Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru district.
Visvesvaraya Jala Nigam Ltd (VJNL), a division of Karnataka’s water resources department, placed this order on the company through national competitive bidding.
Over 5,000 farmers are likely to benefit by the setting up of this transformative project. It will irrigate 16,193 acre land by drip irrigation. This project has to be completed in 24 months.
Recently, the world’s largest automated integrated micro-irrigation project, at Ramthal in Karnataka was dedicated to people. It was also completed by Jain Irrigation successfully. This was the second big project which will definitely be beneficial to farmers in Karnataka, as they would undertake modern farming.
According to this order bagged by Jain Irrigation, the water is lifted from the Upper Bhadra Canal. For it to reach 16,193 acre land area, 59 separate tanks will be built and set up. Water user associations (WUAs) will also be formed, and Jain Irrigation will provide training to them.
A detailed engineering topographical survey would be undertaken by Jain Irrigation under this integrated project. Similarly, an approach channel and a pump house will be constructed.
The pumping unit will be set up for MS Rising Mains and jack well. Supply of pipes also comes under this order. Jain Irrigation, through this project, would erect the power transmission line, sub-station and necessary electrical infrastructure.
Similarly Jain Irrigation would also supply and install a pressurised MS/HDPE/PVC pipe distribution network from the canal to each farmer’s field.
It would also supply and install automated control along with primary and secondary automated self-cleaning filters at the zonal and sub-zonal level.
Supply of drip irrigation system and guidance on how to use it would also be given on behalf of Jain Irrigation.
The company would also undertake operation and maintenance of the system for five years and hand over the project to VJNL.
This project is based on the concept of integrated lift-cum-drip irrigation project. After the implementation of this project, water use efficiency would go up through conduit distribution and use of drip irrigation is planned after the main canal.
Jain Irrigation’s approach towards achieving water and food security is more crop per drop, and it has a strong experience of setting up large-scale integrated irrigation projects.
So similar to the Karnataka project, the company has been bagging more such orders for setting up integrated micro-irrigation projects.
