The Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA) has compiled the data for the export of oilmeals for the quarter ended June 2017. The overall exports of oilmeals between April and June 2017 were provisionally reported at 4,99,140 ton, vis-a-vis the 3,04,703 ton exported during the corresponding period of last year. In other words, it was up by 64 per cent.
In June 2017, the exports of oilmeal were reported at 1,50,918 ton vis-a-vis the 132,771 ton exported in June 2016. That is a 14 per cent increase.
In the last three months, the export of oilmeals improved compared to the previous year, thanks to the good rainfall, better oilseed production and price parity.
In percentage terms, the exports showed improvement, but still it was lower compared to the earlier years, which can be seen from the following table.
It may be also noted that India faced drought years in 2014-15 and 2015-16, which led to the lower production of oilseeds, which affected the exports of oilmeals.
