There has been a tremendous surge in the consumer demand for processed and ready meals over the years. However, ready-to-eat products usually have a short shelf life.

Changing consumer outlook towards and increased consumption of baked products is anticipated to augment frozen bakery production worldwide.

Frozen baked products have a much longer shelf life and can be stored for a longer time compared to conventional bakery products.

Contrary to popular belief, frozen foods can actually be healthy. These foods are cheap, convenient, and easy to prepare.

Majority of frozen baked items, such as frozen dough, are prominently used for manufacturing packaged foods, including bread and pizza, among other foods. Strong demand for frozen bakery items will in turn will propel the development of efficient bakery processing equipment.

Purchasing equipment for production is a significant decision which can impact the quality, volume and ultimate bottom lines of a company.

The importance of bakery processing equipment can be surmised from Koenig’s new Customer Technology Centre, which the company built for allowing bakers to test recipes, machines and train workers on using the equipment.

This would help them decide on buying suitable equipment for bakery processing and packaging.

Driven by health concerns globally, there is a robust demand for nutritionally-rich and gluten-free baked products.

Advances in the food sector for the development of healthier frozen foods will drive the change in consumption trends. It is projected that global frozen bakery market size will be worth more than $40 billion by 2025.

Additives such as emulsifiers, colorants, leavening and reducing agents are added to frozen foods to enhance flavour and quality and increase their shelf life. These additives also help maintain food stability without compromising flavour, texture and aroma.

Extensive product application in packaged foods and bakery items will create promising opportunities for frozen bakery additives manufacturers in the coming years. The increasing population will only add to the demand for food that is healthy, tasty and meets high quality standards.

The prepared and pre-cooked meal sector in the US is booming, and new frozen foods have experienced rapid market penetration in recent years.

Evidently, frozen meals, including vegetarian and vegan frozen ready meals and bakery items, have been one of the core purchases for nearly all American customers.

This indicates strong growth potential for the US frozen bakery market. Frozen bread and pizzas are two of the most frequently purchased baked products in not only the US, but many countries across Europe as well.

The Insider Data team had collaborated with Google News Labs to find out which were the most searched frozen foods in every state in the US.

Based on Google searches during 2004-2018 from each state, frozen pizza was one of the most searched frozen foods, along with frozen vegetables and spinach.

The Latin American packaged food sector, led by Colombia, Brazil and Mexico, is gaining momentum. The region accounts for a major share of consumption of bakery products.

Analysts and experts have claimed that the surge in consumption of bread and other baked goods in recent years has been due to the growing population of European immigrants into the region.

Latin America is currently the most urbanised region in the world. In fact, there are over 55 cities in Latin America with a population of one million or higher.

The UN-Habitat estimated that 90 per cent of the Latin American population will reside in cities by 2050.

Rapid urbanisation in the area is fueling the demand for packaged and ready foods, including frozen foods.

Regional players are exploring strategies to expand their business operations and reinforce their prominence in the lucrative Latin American frozen bakery industry.

For instance, Mexican bakery brand Grupo Bimbo, in 2018, added four new frozen bakery lines to its Argentina-based manufacturing facility to export its offerings to neighbouring countries such as Chile.

The global frozen bakery industry will gain tremendous traction in the years to come mainly due to advantages such as longer shelf life, better quality, convenience and wider availability and ease of use.

Besides, adoption of environmentally-friendly manufacturing practices and reasonable pricing will drive future market trends.
