Sofitel Mumbai BKC is all set to launch a new gin bar at Jyran – Tandoor Dining and Lounge. Called Jyran Gin Bar, its menu comprises gin cocktails. It is the first and only gin bar for Mumbaikars.

It was unveiled in the presence of sommelier, writer and television presenter Magandeep Singh and Biswajit Chakraborty, general manager, Sofitel Mumbai BKC, and attended by food and beverage connoisseurs from across the city.

Gin is one such popular category of fine spirits that draws its essence from selected botanicals, such as lavender, fresh bay leaf, fennel seed rosemary, coriander, and black peppercorn.

There are over 30 varieties of gin offered at Jyran Gin Bar. These include notable varieties like Le Gin de Christian Drouin, Stranger & Sons, Star Of Bombay and Cotswolds Dry Gin.

The cocktails are curated with Sofitel Mumbai BKC’s in-house gin, and are served with innovative, infused ice-cocktails and straight drinks. Some of the flavours include saffron, berry, exotic tea, hibiscus, lemongrass, and orange peel.

Biswajit Chakraborty, general manager, Sofitel Mumbai BKC, at the splendid terrace of Jyran – Tandoor Dining and Lounge, said, “Gin is a delectable spirit that can be consumed by day or night, for afternoon lunches or over networking dinners.”

“It derives its predominant flavour from Juniper Berries. It is one of the broadest categories of spirits, with various styles and flavour profiles. The most popular of all gin cocktails is the martini, which has become immensely famous thanks to James Bond's preferential Vesper Martini,” he added.

“Nearly all juniper berries used in the making of gin are handpicked in the wild, which helps in retaining the authentic element of the spirit. The tonic water in the gin constitutes a significant proportion, and hence no gin and tonic of high quality can be made without good-quality tonic water,” Chakraborty said.

He added, “With the Jyran Gin Bar, we are pleased to reinvent perceptions about gin as just another spirit and open doors for gin aficionados to rediscover a fine collection of authentic, gin-flavoured cocktails and much-loved classics that are steadily making their way through elegant hospitality space.”

Singh said, “We are curating multiple flavours of gins, with eight exquisite homemade infusions, such as saffron, chamomile, Earl Grey Tea, rosemary and more. At Sofitel Mumbai BKC, we have 30 unique Gins that are sourced from 11 countries with over seven flavoured and five classic types of spirits that are infused with an array of special garnishes.”

“In the coming months, we are looking to add in more individual brands of gins to the fine repertoire,” he added.

Singh is the person behind many of India’s top beverage lists, at some of the most prestigious of establishments.

At the Gin Bar by Jyran, Magan has helped fine-tune the list by organising the extensive range on offer and by adding suitable tonic commendations to go along with.

Together with the team at Jyran Gin Bar, he will present a beverage experience that is cognisant yet unique, one that incites curiosity even as it evokes nostalgia.

Gin lovers can now relish refreshing gin and tonic pairings by top-notch local and international brands in the very heart of the city.

Sofitel Mumbai BKC is the abode to indulge in modern luxury and an icon of French art de vivre imbibing the essence of each destination. It offers the perfect ambiance with iconic outlets to cherish a pleasant time over exquisite food, delectable cocktails, and impeccable service.
