Lucknow hosted the inaugural roadshow for World Food India 2017, which will be organised by the ministry of food processing industries (MoFPI) and take place in New Delhi between November 3 and 5.

Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, minister of state for food processing industries, and Yogi Adityanath, chief minister, Uttar Pradesh, addressed the business community of the northern state at the event, whose objective was to seek their active participation at the global food processing event.

Highlighting the growth prospects in Uttar Pradesh, Adityanath said, “MoFPI is organising a mega international event, World Food India 2017, in New Delhi between November 3 and 5, 2017.”

“Its aim is to showcase investment opportunities in India with a view to attract foreign investments and enhance India’s food processing sector to a global level,” he added.

“We are proud to host the inaugural roadshow of this key initiative in Uttar Pradesh, and are committed towards supporting the main event, World Food India 2017,” Adityanath stated.

“The development of the food processing industry in Uttar Pradesh will help enhance the income of farmers,” he added.

“We are keen to develop four mega food parks in Uttar Pradesh. The government of the state is coming out with a new industrial policy with a provision of single-window clearance to facilitate investments,” Adityanath stated.

“The government of India has increased the allocation to the food processing sector in Uttar Pradesh from Rs 500 crore to Rs 800 crore for the benefit of the small and medium enterprise (SME) industry in the food sector,” said Jyoti.

“Our focus is to create a conducive business environment, and provide all the needed support for the industry. With this priority, MoFPI recently launched the SAMPADA scheme, which provides incentives to industry between Rs 1.5 crore and Rs 5 crore,” she added.

Jyoti invited the government of Uttar Pradesh to be a key partner state for World Food India 2017.

“Uttar Pradesh offers huge potential for the food processing sector to flourish with easy availability of raw produce, untapped human resources and a low production cost, making it an attractive destination,” she added.

The event was attended by Keshav Prasad Maurya, deputy chief minister, Uttar Pradesh; Avinash Kumar Srivastava, secretary, MoFPI; Satish Mahana, industrial development minister, Uttar Pradesh, and business leaders such as Siraj Chaudhary, chairman, Cargill India.

Maurya said, “The development of the food processing industry will help reduce poverty of farmers in the state of Uttar Pradesh. We invite various organisations to come and work together in the favourable conditions of the state.”
“Uttar Pradesh is full of opportunities in the food processing sector, and we welcome investors to participate in the development of the state and contribute to the economy of our country,” he added.

“We will provide all the necessary support required for the establishment of the required projects in the state. If required, we will also support the marketing of various business initiatives in the state,” Maurya stated.

Mahana said, “We will be working towards ease of doing business in the state of Uttar Pradesh, and will implement procedures and policies which will enhance the investment opportunity in the state and will benefit all the relevant stakeholders.”

“Uttar Pradesh has huge potential for investments in the food processing sector, and we will provide the necessary environment for all investors to establish their projects in the state,” he added.

Srivastava said, “Strengthening prime minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Make in India, World Food India will provide a platform for domestic and global players to explore the partnership and expand their businesses in the country.”

“The food processing industry has vast untapped potential, and the Central government is keen to build up the industry,” he added.

“In a step to benefit the industry, the Central government has recently launched the SAMPADA scheme, which will provide a big boost to the growth of the food processing sector in the country,” Srivastava stated.

“The food processing industry contributes only 1.6 per cent to the gross domestic product (GDP) of our country,” he added.

“We are working towards increasing the GDP share to 10 per cent, which would be almost equivalent to those of countries like Brazil, China, etc.,” Srivastava stated.

Chaudhary said, “World Food India is a great initiative by the ministry to help businesses expand their horizons by bringing global and Indian leaders across the food value chain on one platform.”

“It will provide multiple opportunities for the players to amplify their growth internationally and make India a global food factory,” he added.
