Stress on tourist destinations and consumer behaviour at seminar

On the occasion of World Tourism Day 2022, Maharashtra State Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Pune(Degree) organised a seminar on “Rethinking Tourism" under the guidance of Dr Abhay Wagh, director - Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra, Mumbai. The event opened with a welcome note by the principal, Dr Seema Zagade who gave a brief about Rethinking Tourism. She addressed the students by appreciating their work, enlightened them about the correlation between Hotel Industry and Tourism and spoke about the importance of interacting with one’s surroundings.

The eminent speaker, Renu Soman, managing partner, ‘Earth Heal Technologies’, Mumbai, spoke on how the tourism industry can be made sustainable with the concept of nature healing itself. She emphasized on the mantra ‘Research-Technology-Application’ for rethinking tourism. She also said that there is a continuous need for communication and awareness and that cultures should be kept unchanged. Deepti Samant, founder of ‘Always On The Go’, Mumbai, spoke on rising tourist destinations and consumer behaviour post the Covid-era and she also emphasized on the fact that locals preserve the essence of a tourist destination.

She also stated that the major source of tourism business is accommodation. She believes that it is a tourist’s responsibility to maintain the ecological balance at the destination. Dr D.V. Jadhav, joint director, regional office technical education, Pune joined in to witness the exhibition. Moshmi Kose, manager, regional office MTDC, Pune was also present at the event and insisted to all on having a ‘Bucket list of places one wants to visit’.

An exhibition was organised, which was inaugurated and assessed by the guests, which saw participation from the students, with great enthusiasm who portrayed their creativity on Rethinking Tourism, their take on potential development of tourist destinations and employment opportunities. There were a total of 15 teams representing various themes such as Adventure Tourism, Food tourism, Religious Tourism, Sport Tourism, Cultural Tourism, Business Tourism, Heritage Tourism, Eco-tourism, Wildlife tourism and Virtual Tourism. The event concluded with the announcement of the valedictorians.
