Theos, which is located in Noida in the National Capital Region (NCR) and combines a cafe and lounge with a patisserie, is rapidly becoming popular among foodies in the region, keeping in mind the drastically-changing dynamics in the Indian food service sector in the last one decade, and people’s growing fondness for eating out and experimenting.

It was started by chef Gaurav Wadhwa from a small basement garage in October 2006. The following year, it was given its current form. Since then, it has emerged as the customers’ favourite high-end patisserie and chocolaterie and a place to go. In 2009, it grew vertically in size, and its menu began to dish out over 280 items daily. Each of these were made fresh.

“In 2010, Theos expanded laterally with the opening of The Classic Italian Lounge in the form of Theos - Café and Lounge, which serves you a mesmerising Italian sit-down meal which is an unforgettable experience in itself,” said Wadhwa.

He explained that the word Theos was derived from Theobroma Cocoa, the scientific name of the tree from which cocoa was obtained. “It is a Greek word, which literally means food for the gods. And the patisserie is not in Greece, but in India, by the way,” he added.

“Well to begin with, our guest is like an ultimate god for us, and whatever we serve them should be nothing less than what we would offer God in our prayers. Therefore, at Theos, whatever we prepare is with a lot of love, care and, most importantly, straight from the heart,” Wadhwa said.

On the trends in eating out, he added that in the last decade, globalisation has clearly affected almost all forms of trade, be it clothing, artifacts or food.

“Today’s man wants to know what he is eating and is it healthy and hygienic, well that's the biggest challenge to always deliver the best, not only in terms of health and hygiene but also in taste and presentation. Such a level of services at Theos is achieved by the never-ending commitment and enthusiasm,” said Wadhwa, an alumnus of the prestigious Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Pusa.

He took the challenge of heading the bakery and confectionery department at the Taj Connemara Chennai. During his tenure there, he transformed the traditional working style of bakery and confectionery to a more contemporary, modern and stylish form.

Now Wadhwa is looking forward to expand the fine dining family restaurant chain to more locations.

Meanwhile, Theos also offers a special initiative to help and train people from all walks of life to convert an underlying hobby in their heart into a rewarding career for life.

Called Global Culinaria, the programme offers several teachings to the students in all forms of culinary arts. It teaches recipes in a simpler form, so that people can prepare them at home. Hidden recipes for cakes and pastries are revealed to the classes of participants, wherein a live demonstration of each and every recipe is given by Wadhwa and his team in a comfortable studio and kitchen.

And after the successful completion of the programme, a certificate is also given to the participants.

“As executive chef and culinary expert of Global Culinaria - Theos School of Pastry and Culinary Arts, I am here to share my knowledge, skill and attitude with everyone who is keen to learn the master craft of cooking and baking,” Wadhwa said.

“There are no secrets, there was never one and if there was something that was not known to you will all be shared. We are here to change the way you cook,” he added.
