The Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) will bring a delegation of 20-plus food and wine companies to two cities in India (viz. New Delhi and Mumbai) between February 24 and 27, 2020 under the banner Premium Australia.

This mission will be a part of the larger Australia India Business Exchange (AIB-X) programme led by Australia’s minister for trade, tourism and investment, Simon Birmingham.

The programme will focus on sectors where the fast-growing Indian economy creates significant new opportunities for Australian companies and Australian expertise.

The delegation will showcase the best of Australian brands and forge partnerships with Indian importers and retailers.

The mission has been designed to grow and develop India’s awareness of Australia’s clean, safe and reliable food and wine and will include producers and exporters of gourmet food and wines, health food and dairy.

The appetite for these products in the Indian market continues to expand, particularly with the rise of e-commerce.

Premium Australia delegates will travel to Delhi and Mumbai, and interact with key importers, retailers and ecommerce platforms like Amazon India.

The trade minister will also launch a Taste of Australia retail promotion at Foodhall. There will also be cooking demonstrations led by chef Sebastian Simon, featuring Australian ingredients and produce available in India.

Wine tastings will be led by India’s leading sommelier Magandeep Singh, featuring wineries from several wine regions of Australia.

Catherine Gallagher, senior trade and investment commissioner, South Asia, based in Delhi, said, “Despite devastating bushfires, Australia remains open for business and trading partners can continue to have confidence in Australian agriculture and food exports.”

“Australia and India enjoy a vibrant and dynamic trading relationship, which is thriving as new opportunities unfold, particularly with the rise of e-commerce, and the burgeoning Indian middle class,” he added.

“We are keen to strengthen existing ties, make new contacts, explore business opportunities and build prosperous and long-lasting commercial relationships,” Gallagher stated.

The Australia-India Business Exchange is a part of Australia’s ongoing engagement with India under the India Economic Strategy, which sets out ambitious targets for Australian firms to be involved in the Indian growth story, including a call for $100 billion of Australian investment in India by 2035.
