Cambay Tiger, the flagship brand of WestCoast Group, India’s only fully-integrated aquaculture and seafood company, bagged the most promising brand award at the fourth Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) small and medium enterprises (SMEs) Excellence Awards, which took place in New Delhi recently.

Shivam Gupta, director, West Coast Fine Foods (India) Pvt Ltd, and the brain behind the brand, received the award from Haribhai Chaudhary, minister of state for small and medium enterprises.

Cambay Tiger was selected as the winner out of 250 nominations from three rounds, based on key judging parameters such marketing and product innovation, health and safety, sustainability and social impact, and customer satisfaction and market leadership. The Assocham jury comprised senior industry professionals, academicians and bureaucrats.

“The honourable jury selected Cambay Tiger based on the value we bring to the table in the form of brand value and recall and vertical integration, from farm to fork,” said Gupta.

“It also looked at the innovation of bringing live fish to our customers from our own farms through inventive transportation solutions and giving our customers to pick and choose live fish from the aquariums at our branded retail stores, Cambay Tiger Seafood Mart,” he added.

“Our support towards the growth and development of shrimp farmers through venture capital farming and environmentally-sound farming methods have integrally led us to win the award,” stated Gupta.

WestCoast Group has its own shrimp hatcheries, shrimp farms, fish farms, aqua feed and aqua input distribution, shrimp processing plant, domestic retail and distribution and exports.

The group launched Cambay Tiger Seafood Mart, the country’s first live seafood mart at Bandra, Mumbai, in October 2015 and at Lokhandwala, Mumbai, in June 2016. Cambay Tiger, the group’s flagship seafood brand, is present in over 1,000 stores across India, including retail stores in over 50 cities.

The group has played a key role in the support and development of shrimp farmers in the Surat and Navsari districts of Gujarat.

It has been responsible for credit support to the farmers, providing them with the training and knowhow in good aquaculture practices.

WestCoast has been also involved in the financial inclusion of farmers, such as opening of bank accounts, securing PAN cards and filing of regular tax returns.

The company exports Cambay Tiger shrimps to over 30 countries, including the United States and major European and Southeast Asian countries. Close to 7,000 tons of shrimps are exported annually by the company.

It has also ventured into a project called Fish Cage culture, and has a vision to produce 10,000 tons of the best quality fish per year within the next three years.
