Mrida’s Earthspired organises all-India recipe contest using millets

Mrida’s health and wellness brand, Earthspired, in association with Nutrify and NII (Nutritionists in India), organised an all-India recipe contest for nutritionists and dietitians recently, with millets as the main ingredient.

“Earthspired focusses on using the goodness of millets in our everyday health and nutrition. Our all-India recipe contest received a very good response from nutritionists/dieticians and people who believe that healthy ingredients can make a tasty meal too,” said Iksha Chhabra, nutritionist and business head, Earthspired.

“This showcased the relevance and credibility of good eating habits and healthy food. The broader goal of the contest was to raise awareness about the extremely nutritious variety of millets that have been a part of all traditional Indian palates,” she added.
This contest required the contestants to use any kind of millet, a combination of millets, or any Earthspired product as the central ingredient. Each contestant could create a sweet or savoury dish with the millets, but it had to be healthy as well as tasty. Each contestant was required to provide the nutritional information of their dishes.

The contest, was judged by Ryan Fernando, Geeta Dharmatti and Sandeep Kalra, who will declare the winners on February 15, 2019. The winners will take away hampers from Earthspired, a membership to Earthspired’s Health and Wellness Partner Programme and surprise gifts from the judges.
The background of the judges added to the interest of the contestants:

Fernando is founder and chief executive officer, QUA Nutrition Signature Clinics, India’s leading chain of nutrition clinics. He is the nutritionist to two Guinness World Record holders and two Olympic gold medal winners. He is a nutritionist to actors like Aamir Khan and Chiranjeevi, and sportspersons like Robin Uthappa, Harbhajan Singh and Sharmila Nicollet.

Dharmatti is chief nutrigenomic counsellor, Gene Support, and founder and director, Geeta NutriHeal Consultancy. She is executive member, IDA (Indian Dietetic Association), and associate professor and PhD guide, nutrition, Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth.

Kalra is executive chef, Trident, Gurugram. He has opened several gourmet restaurants across the Oberoi chain. He also won the Most Innovative Chef of the Year 2018 award received from BBC in collaboration with Callebaut.

This event aimed at bringing together the nutritionists of the country and making them aware of the versatility and nutritious value of our ancient grains.

It also aimed to create awareness, which would lend to strengthening and supporting our farmers to grow grains that are significantly more economically viable, environmentally-friendly and healthier than rice and wheat.

The contest elicited a great response from the target group, with the post reaching over 25,000 relevant people over social media.
