The Connaught Plaza Restaurants Private Limited (CPRL), now wholly owned by McDonald’s, has restarted its operations in North and East India after the bitter fight over partnership with Vikram Bakshi.
The QSR (quick service restaurant) chain, in a recent statement issued in New Delhi, has said that McDelivery service in Delhi NCR and select cities in North and East India has started and customers can place their orders between 8am and 11pm.
At present, McDelivery will be available at select restaurants only. The list of restaurants offering McDelivery is available on CPRL’s website. In the coming weeks, CPRL will launch the Web and app ordering platforms for customer convenience.
“In the future, customers can also order items through leading online delivery apps. Through the McDelivery service, customers will be able to order items currently being served in the outlets in North and East India, except for Soft Serve Cone, Chocolate McSwirl, Small Sundaes, McFloats and Extra Ingredient Sauces,” the statement read further.
Rob Hunghanfoo, head, CPRL, said, “We are excited to restart our much-loved delivery service, McDelivery, and look forward to serving our customers our great-tasting food, in the comfort of their homes and offices.”
“We are dedicated to delivering on our core commitments of quality, service, cleanliness and value, while exceeding our customers’ expectations every time they order from us,” he added.
“The McDonalds restaurants in North and East India were shut for some time for a reassessment of operational protocol and employee training,” the company stated earlier.
Hunghanfoo said, “CPRL will continue to re-open restaurants over the coming days and weeks in North and East India as it completes the work needed to ensure customers receive the best possible experience when they visit.”
It is pertinent to mention here that McDonald’s India has reached on a settlement of a dispute with Bakshi, its estranged partner for North and East India, regarding the franchise CPRL operations.
Under the proposal for settlement, the QSR giant has decided to acquire full ownership of CPRL.
As, reported earlier, the two sides have filed a joint application with the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) for a mutual settlement of the issue.
Bakshi and McDonald’s inked the deal in 1995 to open the latter’s outlets in India with a 50:50 partnership with Bakshi’s Connaught Plaza Restaurant (CPRL) for North and Eastern India.
In 2017, McDonald’s terminated the franchise deal of 169 outlets under CPRL citing non-payment of royalties after previously ousting Bakshi as managing director, CPRL.
Both parties filed appeals before the NCLAT. One was Bakshi’s plea seeking a stay against termination of the franchise agreement by McDonald’s India and the other was US-based QSR chain’s appeal challenging the National Company Law Tribunal’s (NCLT) order reinstating him as CPRL’s managing director.
McDonald’s is the world’s leading global foodservice retailer with about 38,000 locations in over 100 countries. Approximately 93 per cent of McDonald’s restaurants worldwide are owned and operated by independent local businessmen and women.
