CSIR–Central Food Technological Research Institute (CSIR-CFTRI), Mysuru, successfully concluded its four-day GI Mahotsav 3.0, which witnessed an overwhelming response from the public. The event was organized by MABIF in collaboration with MSME, NABARD, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), and CSIR–CFTRI.

India’s cultural, ecological, and artisanal diversity is deeply reflected in its Geographical Indication (GI) products, shaped by traditional knowledge, regional practices, and community heritage. Each GI product embodies the skill, identity, and legacy of the communities that have safeguarded these traditions for generations.

To promote India’s vibrant GI ecosystem and strengthen market linkages for traditional producers, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, has been leading a series of national GI events. As part of this initiative, NABARD–Madurai Agri Business Incubation Forum (MABIF) organized GI Mahotsav 3.0 – Geographical Indication Products Exhibition, held from December 5–8, 2025, at CSIR–CFTRI, Mysuru.

The valedictory ceremony was held in the presence of Er. Ganesh Moorthy, CEO, MABIF, and Dr. Giridhar Parvatam, Director, CSIR–CFTRI. Both emphasized the importance of promoting GI products and strengthening the ecosystem for producers and entrepreneurs.

The primary objective of the Mahotsav was to raise public awareness about GI products, their cultural and economic value, and to encourage stakeholders to pursue more GI registrations. The expo showcased a wide range of GI-tagged products from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, attracting over 5,000 visitors across four days. All exhibitors received participation certificates, and stalls reported strong demand, underscoring the rising consumer interest in authentic, region-specific goods.

The concluding day featured presentations of success stories from GI associations, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and startups. A notable highlight was the presentation by BaKaHu, a CFTRI licensee using the institute’s technology to produce raw banana powder an example of research-driven entrepreneurship making real impact.

Awards were also presented to winners of the Student Hackathon. The first prize went to a team from CSIR–CFTRI, while three teams from JSS Science & Technology University and JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSS AHER) secured the second prize. Several business proposals were initiated with GI-registered organizations, and future collaborations were discussed during the event.

The enthusiastic participation from exhibitors, visitors, and stakeholders reaffirmed the growing significance of GI products in preserving regional heritage and supporting rural livelihoods, said Dr. Giridhar Parvatam, Director, CSIR–CFTRI.
