Export of oilmeals during period between April and July 2017 up by 54%

In its report containing the data for the export of oilmeals for the month of July 2017, the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA) stated that the overall export of oilmeals between April and July 2017 was provisionally reported at 6,38,468 ton, vis-a-vis the 4,13,341 ton during the corresponding period of last year (i e it was up by 54 per cent).
The export during July 2017 is reported at 39,122 ton compared to 1,08,638 ton in July 2016 (i e down by 64 per cent).
In the last three months, the export of oilmeals improved compared to the previous year, thanks to good monsoon, better oilseeds production and price parity.
In percentage terms, export showed improvement, but it was still lower compared to earlier years, which can be seen from the following table.
It may be also noted that India faced drought years in 2014-15 and 2015-16, which lead to the lower production of oilseeds, which affected the export of oilmeals to a lowest level. However with good monsoon last year, the export revived to some extent.

Germany, Vietnam, South Korea and Europe: Major importers of oilmeals
Between April and July 2017, oilmeal imported by Vietnam from India reported at 92,656 ton compared to 126,875 ton, consisting of 8,608 ton of soybean meal, 12,278 ton of rapeseed meal and 71,770 ton of de-oiled rice bran extraction.
South Korea imported 2,33,812 ton compared to 2,06,467 ton. They consisted of 1,05,088 ton of rapeseed meal, 1,23,362 ton of castor meal and 5,362 ton of soybean meal.
Thailand imported 45,020 ton compared to 1,709 ton. They consisted of 18,446 ton of rapeseed meal, 9,454 ton of de-oiled rice bran extraction and 17,120 ton of soybean meal.
European countries were the major importers of Indian soybean meal. Germany imported 27,812 ton of soybean meal, and the rest of European countries imported 47,753 ton.

Port-wise export between April and July 2017
The export from Kandla is reported at 3,62,154 ton (57 per cent), followed by Mumbai (including JNPT), which handled 111,533 ton (17 per cent). Mundra handled 55,636 ton (nine per cent) and Kolkata handled 84,565 ton (13 per cent).
