Havmor Ice Cream opts for cloud data management solution provider Veeam

Havmor Ice Cream has opted for Veeam, a leader in back-up solutions that deliver cloud data management to spur efficiency in operations.

The big benefit for the ice cream major, which is part of the Korea-based Lotte Confectionery was that after it installed the Veeam Back-up and Replication software solution, it was able to achieve fast, flexible and reliable back-up, recovery and replication of all applications and data.

With automated alerts and visibility of status, Veeam solution enabled Havmor to slash its backup processes by over 80 per cent. There were man-hour savings in data recovery, which took a mere 20 minutes to retrieve, even from a server. The overall increase in back-up frequency gave Havmor data availability for 15 days. It was seen to  achieve 100 per cent uptime for all workloads.

Now, Havmor has opted for a back-up solution, primarily because it grew ten-fold, expanded pan-India across 14 states in India through a large network of over 40,000 ice cream outlets, and established a franchisee parlour model, Havfunn parlours.

Dhaval Mankad, vice-president, information technology, Havmor Ice Cream, said, “The availability of business-critical data is absolutely critical to enable the innovation and customer delight that we pride. For this, our business depends heavily on IT systems and would suffer sales/revenues losses in the event of downtime.”

“Moreover, our IT systems had limitations of offering the reliability needed to ensure high data availability. The dated back-up infrastructure, based on tape drives, provided a very long back-up window while the updated back-ups were always not available, disrupting the entire business,” he added.

“This was not able to meet the business need for quick and reliable data recovery. Similarly, with our disaster recovery (DR) set-up, we were not getting the required capabilities that our business needed,” Mankad said.

After evaluating various solutions available in the market, the company zeroed in on Veeam as its partner to address the data challenges. Among the other factors that helped Havmor to choose the Veeam was the tapeless back-up environment, it provided along with the ease of use along with the speed of recovery with reliable back-up consistency check.

According to Veeman, both the companies worked to decide right-fit solution. These covered the Veeam Back-up and Replication system to protect the virtualised environment and the physical servers. The endpoints, too, were protected with Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows.

Further, for Havmor, the Veeam solution protected 30 terabytes of business-critical data across its two locations, and a total combination of 15 virtual machines, two physical servers and 100 end-points.

The overall increase in backup frequency has given Havmor more comfort on data availability. The additional restore points help keep 15 days of back-up available. In fact, when Havmor once faced a Ransomware attack on one of its critical applications, the additional restore point helped in successful restore with very minimal data loss.
