Hyderabad to host second SEA–AICOSCA Cottonseed Oil & Meal Conclave ’19

The second edition of the National Conference on Cottonseed Oil and Meal Conclave 2019 will be organised by the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA) and All India Cottonseed Crushers’ Association (AICOSCA), with the support of Telangana Oil Industry and Trade Association, and take place at Hotel Marigold, Hyderabad, on March 24, 2019.

The main objective of the event is to spread awareness about cottonseed oil among consumers. It will have several presentations by speakers like Atul Chaturvedi, president, SEA; Sandeep Bajoria, chairman, AICOSCA; Rajnikant Rai, chief executive officer, agri business, ITC Limited; R B N Prasad, former chief scientist and head, CSIR; Prabodh S Halde, head, technical regulatory affairs, Marico Limited; Pasha Patel, chairman, Maharastra Agriculture Cost and Price Commission, Government of Maharashtra; Suresh Kumar Agarwal, president, Telangana Oil Industries and Trade Association, etc.

The panellists will deliberate on several issues concerning the prospects and issues of cottonseed production, exports, regulatory challenges faced by the cottonseed industry. The conclave will also host sessions on the best usage of cottonseed meal in feed formation, the nutritional aspects and the future prospects, along with a session on marketing practices to promote cottonseed oil and a discussion on the price outlook.

Sandeep Bajoria, chairman, AICOSCA, said, “India is now the largest cotton producing country in the world, overtaking China and the USA and producing between 360-370 lakh bales (of 170kg each) of cotton in a year.”

“According to the latest estimates of the Cotton Advisory Board (CAB), the Central government body under the Ministry of Textiles for estimating the production, consumption, import and export of cotton during a season, cotton production in India in the crop year 2017-18 was 365 lakh bales (of 170kg each) and would be 330 lakh bales for the ongoing 2018-19 season,” he added.

“The second SEA-AICOSCA Conclave aims to further promote the usage of cottonseed oil as a good cooking oil, help remove the regulatory and policy hurdles to facilitate the growth of cottonseed oil, meal and cake. We hope for a insightful sessions at the conclave will provide valuable insights to spread awareness and help to enhance the consumption of cottonseed oil,” Bajoria said.

Atul Chaturvedi, president, SEA, said, “India produces about 13 lakh tonne of cottonseed oil and gaining popularity among the consumers. Cottonseed oil is preferred oil by the organised food industry for the unique frying properties of the oil which keep our namkeens and snacks fresh for a long period of time. Cost-wise also, cotton oil is competitively priced. That increases its acceptability.”
