More than 10,000 food business operators/ restauranteurs using e-commerce platforms for selling food have been delisted after Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) asked the latter to provide update on compliance of licensing and registration rules by these entities.

The apex food regulator has reviewed the action taken by leading food aggregators such as Zomato, Swiggy, Uber Eats and Foodpanda with regard to delisting of non-compliant hotels/restaurants.

FSSAI in a statement said that the food delivery aggregators informed that they have already initiated action against the defaulting partner hotels/restaurants.

Zomato has delisted 2,500, Swiggy 4,000, Foodpanda 1,800, and Uber Eats 2,000 partner hotels/restaurants from their respective platforms.

These food aggregators have been directed to share the list of delisted hotels/restaurants so that action can be initiated against the defaulters under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, the statement added.

FSSAI has also shared a checklist of compliance for hotels/restaurants to be used by them in their internal food safety audits. Zomato and Swiggy have conducted internal food safety audits of some of their partner hotels/restaurants accordingly.

The food delivery aggregators have also come together for training and certification of supervisors of hotels/restaurants.

Meanwhile the list of delisted hotels/restaurants would be shared with state enforcement machinery for the action against non-compliant FBOs as per the provisions laid down under the FSS Act, 2006.

Earlier, FSSAI had directed these e-commerce food delivery platforms to delist their partner hotels/restaurants running without FSSAI licence/registration by September 30, 2018.
