MSME Devpt Institute and MoFPI’s IICPT organise motivational campaign

The MSME Development Institute (MSME-DI), Chennai [under the ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME)] and the Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology (IICPT), Thanjavur [under the ministry of food processing industries (MoFPI)] organised an intensive motivational campaign at the latter’s premises.
The programme witnessed the participation of over 200 under- and unemployed youth from Thanjavur and the nearby districts. The formal part of the workshop was instigated with the welcome address by N Shivalaingam, assistant director, MSME-DI, Chennai. He spoke about MSME and the crucial it plays in providing large self-employment opportunities and industrialisation of rural and backward areas.
The presidential address was delivered by G Raveendran, general manager, District Industries Centre, Thanjavur. He spoke about the subsidy schemes available for start-ups and exclusive funding opportunities for first-generation entrepreneurs provided by the District Industries Centre, Thanjavur.
He also highlighted the significant role played by IICPT in the field of food processing and requested the youth to effectively avail the technical services from the institute.
The inaugural address was given by C Anandharamakrishnan, director, IICPT. He described the Indian food processing sector of India as a sunrise sector, as it is growing at the rate of ten per cent every year.
He also spoke about the technical support provided by IICPT through its incubation centre and FSSAI referral lab. He enlightened the youth about the market demand for functional foods, and briefed them about the various food processing technologies available at the institute.
The special address was delivered by Sabapathy, president, Tanjore District Small Industries Association. He spoke about the importance of being innovative and quality assurance for establishing a successful business. The vote thanks was proposed by A Amudhasurabi, associate professor, IICPT.
This was followed by the technical sessions on various topics related to food processing sector and its scope, financial assistance schemes for entrepreneurs and scope on service sector. They were delivered by experts from IICPT and MSME.
