Online food delivery company Foodpanda’s recent survey findings indicate that Indian households, particularly non-coastal regions of Hyderabad and Bengaluru, provide brisk online sales over Kolkata and states like Goa.

The average ordering value of seafood varied between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,400, which is much higher than the average ordering value of other cuisines. Seafood is preferred during dinner time as most of the seafood orders were placed between 7 pm – 9 pm. Seafood ordered during winters is three folds than in summers, noted the study.

Some of the key findings - Indians are not so experimentative with their choice and stick with the tried and tested options like fish tikkas, curries and biryani. People like to order fish and prawns. Other seafood options like squid, crab, and oysters do not find much takers.

Interestingly, coastal regions are not amongst the top five regions to order seafood online. Non- coastal regions like Bangalore and Hyderabad in South India lead the list.

Andhra and Goan seafood cuisines are relished by people. Apollo Fish, Fish Biryani, Prawns Biryani and Fish Fry are some of the most ordered options.

Amongst the sea food options, curries take a backseat and dry dishes are preferred more. Only fish curry makes it to the list amidst all dry options.

Goa, Kerala and West Bengal do not order seafood online despite its major consumption over there.
