Wok Express, India’s leading pan-Asian quick service restaurant (QSR) chain, has launched its second dark kitchen in Mumbai. Located at Ram Mandir, Jogeshwari, the new kitchen will cater to customers within a radius of 3 km, facilitated by delivery apps.
The chain presently operates in the high street and food court formats, spread across 35 outlets in Mumbai and Pune. The first fully-equipped dark kitchen format was introduced in Chandivali, Powai, earlier this year.
“After the success of our first dark kitchen concept in Mumbai, we are now pleased to roll out our second kitchen in the city,” stated Aayush Agarwal, director, Lenexis Foodworks Pvt Ltd.
He added, “The new format will help us reach out to our loyal customer base, besides tapping potential customers and encouraging repeat orders,” he added.
“We have seen an impressive growth in our delivery sales over the last few quarters, and are extremely buoyant on the booming online food delivery space. We plan to open 10 dark kitchens across Mumbai’s neighbourhood in the next two years,” Agarwal said.
Wok Express’dark kitchen format is exclusively designed to cater to a wider set of audiences, who want to have their food delivered at homes or offices. The concept helps manage the entire operational efficiency from food procurement, recipe preparation and packaging. The kitchen is exclusively optimized for delivery.
Its delivery menu boasts of an interesting spread of pan-Asian cuisine, including Chinese rice and noodle bowls, soups, baos, dumplings, chicken wings, appetisers and refreshing coolers.
QSRs have been growing exponentially in the recent times, owing to India’s burgeoning middle class (an estimate by IBEF pegged it at 267 million), economic growth of seven per cent-plus, and a projected CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of over 22 per cent by 2021.
