The cuisine of Malvan is currently being curated by home chefs Prathishta Armarkar and Praja Patil at Pondichéry Café, the all-day dining restaurant at Sofitel Mumbai BKC. During the 10-day festival, which will conclude on November 24, 2019, the duo will be guided by the hotel’s chef de cuisine, Vividh Patil.
Influenced by the cuisines of Maharashtra and Goa, the delicacies of the coastal town, located in Sindhudurg district of Southern Maharashtra, are predominantly non-vegetarian and seafood-oriented, but there are some vegetarian dishes as well. They contain coconut in its various forms. The seafood, meat, vegetables and herbs will be freshly sourced.
While Patil traces her roots to a small village in Tondavli, which is a part of Malvan, and Armarkar, who is based in Kandalgaon in Malvan, will showcase such delicacies as Sukkha Chicken, Chimbori Masala, Malvani Mutton Curry, Bharleli Vangi and Ravechi Sooji. These will be accompanied by the post-meal drink, Solkadhi.
Neeraj Rawoot, executive chef, Sofitel Mumbai BKC, said, “A blend of fresh and piquant ingredients, Malvani cuisine is a favourite of local residents and national guests alike. At Sofitel Mumbai BKC, it is our pleasure to welcome guests to experience the Malvani cuisine prepared by our talented home chefs as they add their own signature twist to ancestral recipes.”
The meal will be available for lunch between noon and 3pm and for dinner from 7pm to 11:30pm. It will be priced at Rs 3,360 (all inclusive) per person.
