fiogf49gjkf0d The National Mission of Food Processing (NMFP) is gearing up to organise an awareness programme at Mysore’s Kings Court on August 31, 2014. The objective is to give a boost to the food processing industries in the district.
“The programme would highlight opportunities, incentives and concessions for the food processing sector, and provide the food industry a platform to display their products,” Suresh Kumar Jain, general secretary, Mysore District Micro-, Small and Medium Enterprises Association, said.
Mysore is a hub for food research and development. Government laboratories like the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) and the Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) have enabled several technology transfers.
Nestle India invested Rs 360 crore for a state-of-the-art culinary production plant at Nanjangud off Mysore. In addition, there are several micro-, small and medium-sized manufacturing and food processing units.
NMFP has partnered district agricultural, horticulture departments, District Industries Centre and with Mysore Industries Association and Mysore District Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Association to organise the meet.
According to Jain, “Experts from CFTRI, DFRL, horticulture, food industries and agricultural departments have been roped in to interact and brief about NMFP’s guidelines, advances in technologies in the processing of fruit, milk, pulses and other food products, including the availability of infrastructure and land usage.”
V Srinivas Prasad, Mysore district in-charge and revenue minister, would inaugurate the event. Officials from the ministry of food processing industries and the Karnataka Processed Agriculture Products Export Development Corporation would interact with the entrepreneurs.
