Carl’s Jr, US burger chain, ties up with CybizCorp to operate in India

fiogf49gjkf0d California-based burger chain Carl’s Jr, which offers premium-quality American char-broiled Thickburgers, would soon make its foray into the Indian market. Its initial agreement, with India’s Cybiz BrightStar Restaurants Pvt Ltd, was for upto 100 outlets in the country.
CKE Restaurants Holdings, Inc, the chain’s parent company, recently inked a development agreement with the CybizCorp-owned firm. The former, which has system-wide sales exceeding $4 billion, believes that over a period of time, the chain has the potential to operate 1,000 restaurants in the country.
“We have been preparing for an entry in India for more than three years, and after substantial due diligence, we decided to sign CybizCorp as our franchise partner in the country,” said Ned Lyerly, president, international, CKE Restaurants.
“We see tremendous potential in the Indian market, and CybizCorp’s proven track record in the franchise sector in both real estate and food and beverages gives us great confidence in the partnership and our future success in the country,” he added.
“The time is right for a premium burger quick service restaurant (QSR) such as Carl’s Jr. to enter India, as we are witnessing a burger revolution in our country, a parallel phenomena that was witnessed in the pizza and pasta category a decade back,” stated Sam Chopra, group chairman and founder, CybizCorp.
“The advent of multiple brands in the premium burger category in the recent past bears testimony to this trend. After successfully managing the master franchises of some of the most premium standalone outlets in the country, representing an iconic brand like Carl’s Jr would be an exciting proposition,” he added.
“We looked for the best in quick-service burgers, and chose Carl’s Jr. We look forward to a wonderful partnership with CKE. Our first store opening is anticipated for spring 2015,” Sam Chopra said.
Carl’s Jr’s other offerings include Made from Scratch biscuits, hand-breaded chicken tenders, and hand-scooped ice cream shakes made with premium ice cream. It is known for its marketing approach, and its popularity can be gauged by the millions of YouTube views that its advertisements capture.
For India, Carl’s Jr has developed a line of fresh and flavourful, premium vegetarian options that are in accordance with Indian tastes and preferences. Many of these are unique to the Indian market, and would be launched, in addition to several signature Carl’s Jr. menu items.

“I personally have great faith and belief in this brand and know that our unique offerings, including premium vegetarian burger options, are going to be greatly enjoyed by the Indian consumers of today. Partial table service and contemporary, comfortable upscale California-themed décor in a QSR environment is something unique to the Indian market,” she added.
Besides India, CKE recently opened Carl’s Jr restaurants in new markets, including Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, New Zealand and the Bahamas.
