The FSSAI has urged State Food Safety Commissioners to conduct a special festive drive for ensuring food safety quality and prevention of adulteration.
Called Holi Anti-adulteration Drive 2025, the drive shall be initiated by states and regional offices of FSSAI to ensure stringent monitoring and proactive enforcement actions. The food regulator has also suggested use of mobile testing labs for major clusters or markets for on the spot testing and immediate subsequent enforcement, if required.
“Enforcement officials may be directed to conduct inspections and sampling in their respective jurisdiction, intensifying vigilance to safeguard public health and curb any malpractice,” reads the order issued by FSSAI in this regard.
According to FSSAI, with the upcoming Holi Festival, the demand for sweets, savouries, milk and milk products rises significantly. This surge in demand often leads to economic incentives for food adulteration, resulting in sale of substandard & spurious products that compromise quality and safety, posing serious risk to public health.
The order added, “The FSSAI underscores the need for heightened surveillance and enforcement action to prevent the circulation of adulterated and unsafe food products namely milk, milk products, sweets, snacks, savouries, namkeens, edible oil, cereals & cereal products etc.”
