FSSAI seeks action taken report from States in regard to festive season surveillance

The FSSAI has sought an action taken report from the State Food Safety Departments by November 15 with relevant data of inspection and surveillance carried out during the current festive season. 

The national food regulator has asked the States to launch a special drive to ensure food safety and prevention of adulteration during the months of September and October 2025. 

In a direction, the FSSAI stated, “In an order to address the concern (related to adulteration, which pose serious risks to public health and undermining consumer confidence), it is hereby requested to conduct special surveillance and enforcement drives during the festive period.”

The direction added that these drives may be conducted strategically focusing on the identified hot spots and sensitive locations wherein the food safety on wheels can be employed wherever available. 

“Based on specific intelligence inputs, and to facilitate on the spot testing, strengthening vigilance, create awareness and to boost consumer trust by assuring them safe and quality food products during the festive season, food safety on wheels wherever available may be deployed,” reads the direction. 

Further, direction adds that the relevant data of inspection, sampling and their outcome mandatorily to be updated on FoSCoS/FoSCoRIS latest by November 15.
