The FSSAI has issued a notice for keeping the enforcement drive with respect to spices in abeyance until further orders. The national food regulator did not mention any reason for the same but has asked the States not to initiate any action in this regard.

"It is informed that the aforesaid communication is hereby kept in abeyance until further, you are requested not to initiate any action in pursuance of the said letter till further instructions are issued from this office," reads the order.

Previously, FSSAI on September 17, 2025, issued an order regarding the enforcement drive on spices (whole & powder) scheduled to be conducted during October 2025.

As reported earlier, the food regulator had asked the State Food Safety Commissioners and Regional Directors to initiate nationwide enforcement drives on spices, whole & powder, for the month of October, which would assess the safety, quality, labelling requirements as well as identify the hot spots of adulteration and non-compliance of spices in the Indian markets.

The FSSAI had also asked the state authorities to include Black Pepper Powder, Black Pepper Whole, Cardamom Powder, Cardamom Whole, Chilli Powder, Chilli Whole, Cinnamon (Dalchini) Whole, Coriander Powder, Coriander Whole, Cumin Powder, Cumin Whole, Turmeric Powder and Turmeric Whole.

The enforcement/ surveillance drive was to be conducted across the country in the month of October against which the state authorities were also asked to submit a detailed report to the FSSAI.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the enforcement drive may be conducted at a later date.
