The FSSAI has created a provision for granting short duration certificates to seasonal food businesses who do business during short events like religious fairs and food festivals.
"With the approval of the food authority, a provision in FoSCoS for granting registration certificates to seasonal food business during short events such as religious fairs, food festivals etc. has been created under the window of the Registering Authority," reads the order.
The provision has few conditions wherein the Registering Authority is required to fill Form A on behalf of the FBO having details of the kind of business (KoB) allowed only for retailers, food vending machines and food services including petty retailers and hawkers.
The second condition was that the validity would be maximum for 3 months and non-renewable, while Rs. 100 will be charged for the same. However, hawkers are exempted from the registration fee.
As per FSSAI, the concept of operating a seasonal business is specified under Form A of the Schedule 2 of the FSS Licensing and Registration of Food Business Regulation.
"However, no provision was available in the online food safety compliance system for granting registration certificates to seasonal food businesses during the short events. In absence of the provision, the food authority initiated the provision for granting registration certificates through the FoSCoS portal," reads the order.
