In a major relief to farmers, the central government under PMFBY has disbursed Rs 52,869.78 crore as crop-failure claims to insured farmers between 2022-23 and 2024-25. The information was shared in a written reply to Parliament.
According to the data, the government’s share in premium subsidies over the same period amounted to Rs 35,395.66 crore. The scheme’s budgetary allocation and actual expenditure over the three years were: 2022-23 at Rs 10,296.03 crore, 2023-24 at ?12,948.50 crore, and 2024-25 at Rs 14,772.86 crore reflecting enhanced funding and utilisation.
To improve transparency and speed up claim settlement, several technological and administrative reforms have been introduced. A unified National Crop Insurance Portal (NCIP) now serves as a single source of data enabling direct online enrollment of farmers, digital uploading of crop-yield and land-record data, and electronic transfer of claim payments to farmers’ bank accounts.
Additionally, from the 2022 Kharif season onward, a “Digiclaim Module” — integrated with the public financial management system and insurance companies’ accounting — has facilitated prompt and transparent disbursement of claims. Field data collection via the CCE-Agri App, yield estimation through technology (YESTECH), and real-time weather tracking (WINDS) have further streamlined processes.
To raise awareness among farmers and local communities, the government continues to conduct “Crop Insurance Week/Fasal Bima Saptah” events, village-level workshops (Fasal Bima Pathshalas), and a doorstep policy/receipt distribution drive under “Meri Policy Mere Haath.”
With these assertive steps, PMFBY aims to deliver faster, more efficient, and transparent crop-loss compensation, ensuring timely financial relief to farmers affected by natural calamities, pests, or yield shortfalls.
