Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently chaired a high-level review meeting at Krishi Bhawan to assess the progress of Rabi crop sowing, price movements of key agricultural commodities and implementation status of central sector schemes. The session brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare to take stock of the sector ahead of the forthcoming cropping season and budget rollout.

During the meeting, Chouhan reviewed the latest sowing figures for Rabi crops, covering staples such as wheat, pulses, oilseeds and other food grains. While expressing satisfaction with the overall progress of the sowing season, the Minister underscored the need for continuous monitoring of price trends including vegetables, pulses and oilseeds to help stabilise markets and protect farmer interests.

A key focus of the discussions was on the implementation of flagship agriculture schemes such as Krishonnati Yojana and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY). Chouhan reviewed the status of fund releases and expenditures for states under these programmes and emphasised that effective utilisation of funds at the state level is crucial for ensuring outcomes on the ground. He directed officials to hold regular review meetings with state governments where fund utilisation remained below expectations.

Stressing the importance of outcome-oriented governance, the Agriculture Minister called for direct feedback from farmers — the end users of government schemes — to better understand the impact of various initiatives and improve service delivery. Chouhan also urged ministry officials to work with a sense of urgency to implement the agriculture-related proposals announced in the Union Budget 2026-27, in close coordination with the states, to catalyse growth in the sector.

The meeting was attended by Dr Devesh Chaturvedi, Agriculture Secretary, and other senior ministry officials, underscoring the government’s focus on strengthening agricultural productivity, price stability and scheme effectiveness for farmer welfare.
