The 20th essay of the Consular Corps Charity Carnival (popularly called the Melting Pot) will take place at The Regal Room, Trident Hotel, Nariman Point, between 6pm and 10pm on September 15, 2019. Twenty-nine consulates based in the city will spend an evening showcasing aspects of their cultures, including their cuisines, dances, traditions and customs, and aim to push for the upliftment of the poor and the less privileged.
The 29 participating consulates are Argentina, Belgium, Canada, China, Estonia, Ethiopia, Gabon, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Indonesia, Israel, Iran, Jordan, Kenya, Poland, Russia, Rwanda, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, the United Kingdom and Zimbabwe.
The Melting Pot, an annual cultural charity fundraising event, aims to raise maximum funds for different charities. The proceeds from this event will be donated to four charities, namely Cankids (which works in 59 cancer centres, 24 outstation support units and seven care centres in 26 cities and 19 states of India, treating over 15,000 new cases of childhood cancer each year), Oscar Foundation (which delivers life skills to children and youth from low-income communities using football as a tool for development and to encourage them towards completing their education), Lions Club and Pragati Pratishthan.
Since its inception, the event has supported over 50 NGOs (non-governmental organisations). The NGOs selected every year go through a rigorous selection process, where they showcase the work they have done so far, with a proposal of how best they will use the funds if selected.
The registration fee for adults is Rs 5,000 and for children, it is Rs 3,000.
