Elmentoz Research Pvt. Ltd., a deep-tech biotechnology start-up focused on precision animal health nutrition and smart feed solutions, has raised $4.5 million in its first seed funding round from angel investors based in India and Norway. The funding marks a significant step in strengthening India’s sustainable and next-generation feed ecosystem.
With this investment, Elmentoz is setting up India’s largest Black Soldier Fly (BSF)–based smart protein facility, designed to process nearly 2,000 metric tonnes per month of industrial by-products using advanced automation and proprietary technologies. The facility is expected to become operational in January 2026, positioning the company at the forefront of sustainable feed innovation.
The capital infusion will help Elmentoz address India’s heavy dependence on imported functional feed additives, reduce biosecurity risks such as antimicrobial resistance, and improve profitability for farmers. The company’s insect-based protein platform offers measurable reductions in land use, water consumption and carbon footprint, aligning with global sustainability goals.
Elmentoz’s IP-led platform integrates genomics, proteomics, advanced automation and cGMP manufacturing to develop AMP-fortified immune-smart premixes, smart protein formulations and functional oils under its flagship brands ELGROW and ELTIDE. These solutions focus on improving gut health, feed efficiency and disease resilience, offering an effective alternative to antibiotic growth promoters.
The seed funding will be utilised to scale its automated cGMP manufacturing facility, expand product portfolios, advance antimicrobial peptide technology, strengthen global partnerships, and grow its research and commercial teams.
Commenting on the development, founder and CEO Dr. Jayashankar Das said that India must prioritise nutritional security alongside food security, adding that Elmentoz’s research-driven platform delivers safer, antibiotic-free performance across poultry, aquaculture and pet nutrition. Co-founder and CTO Dr. Padmaja Mohanty emphasised insects’ role as efficient bio-converters, while Norwegian investor Christen Hveem noted that Elmentoz has the potential to shape the future of sustainable global food systems.
With this milestone, Elmentoz is emerging as a key player in India’s rapidly evolving smart protein and animal nutrition landscape.
