Olam Agri secures $100 million, 7-year facility from FMO to strengthen rice supply to Africa
Friday, 06 March, 2026, 14 : 00 PM [IST]
Singapore
Olam Group Limited recently announced that its food, feed and fibre operating group, Olam Agri, has secured a seven-year US$100 million financing facility from FMO (Nederlandse Financierings-Maatschappij Voor Ontwikkelingslanden N.V.).

The facility will be utilised to support rice trade flows from India, Thailand and Vietnam to African markets where rice remains a key dietary staple. The funding is aimed at strengthening food security and enhancing value chain resilience across importing countries.

The borrowers under the agreement are Olam Global Agri Pte. Ltd. and Olam Global Agri Treasury Pte. Ltd. The facility is initially guaranteed by Olam Group and will be transferred to Olam Agri upon completion of its demerger.

Hans Bogaard, Director Agribusiness, Food & Forestry at FMO, said the partnership reinforces support for sustainable rice production and resilient food systems. He noted that Olam Agri’s scale, engagement with smallholder farmers and use of digital systems position it strongly to drive sustainability progress across supply chains.

Julie Greene, Chief Sustainability Officer at Olam Agri, said ensuring reliable access to affordable and nutritious food remains central to the company’s global operations. She added that the funding will strengthen the company’s ability to move essential commodities from surplus regions to high-demand markets while continuing investments in transparent and resilient supply chains.

Olam Agri is a founding member of the Sustainable Rice Platform, an initiative promoting low-emission and water-efficient rice farming practices. The latest financing underscores growing collaboration between global agribusinesses and development finance institutions to enhance food security across Asia and Africa.
