Cremica Food Ind. Ltd, which is the third-largest seller of tomato ketchup and the biggest seller of ketchup portion packs in India, leads the industry with focus on quality and innovation.

The company has been able to maintain one of the highest growth rates in the industry and was able to cater to the needs of the food sector in the Indian market with a range of products, focussing on quality and innovation in the food processing industry, exploring new avenues like entering the bar syrup category.

Akshay Bector, CMD, Cremica Food Industries Ltd, in an interaction with Ashwani Maindola explains the company's philosophy and future plans. Excerpts:

Describe the company and its philosophy.
Cremica Group was established in 1978 and has established itself as a huge food products conglomerate, leading the food processing business through its range of products, innovative flavours, it’s internationally certified production facilities, the consistency of its quality, and its unmatched expertise in the industry. The company has always stood for unparalleled quality, great taste and world class innovative products, customised for local taste buds.

Your company is the third-largest seller of tomato ketchup and the biggest seller of portion packs in India. Elaborate.
We operate as India’s largest tomato ketchup line and are the country's largest producer of ketchup portion packs capable of packing four million sachets per day! We supply ketchup along with other condiments to leading QSRs including McDonald’s, KFC and Domino’s.

Our relentless commitment to set benchmarks for great quality and good taste has resulted in our company becoming the number one brand in food service network having a strong presence across all states in India.

What goes into quality and innovation while manufacturing the products?
Our company is known for innovation and we excel in this regard vis-à-vis other players: Pioneered a first 100% veg mayo way back in 1996; Developed flavoured mayonnaise range like mint, tandoori etc.; Formulated grill friendly sandwich spread range; Introduced traditional Indian chatni range called “Chataka” in mint, soonth & imli flavours; We introduced ready-to-cook curry pastes with zero preservatives named Desi Express; Introduced India’s first kettle chips Opera Premium chips in olive oil.

We have created value through quality and innovation, which has helped us establish ourselves as a food product conglomerate, leading the food processing business through our range of products, our internationally certified production facilities, the consistency of our quality and
our unmatched expertise in the industry.

Recently the company has launched a mega park in Himachal Pradesh. Give details about the operations, investments and plans for the mega park.
Cremica Food Park has been set up at a project cost of more than Rs 100 crore, and we expect investment of more than Rs 300 crore in the years to come. We are poised to be one of the finest and most developed food processing infrastructure facilities. The park also provided a platform for establishing backward and forward linkages covering the entire food processing value chain and implements best practices in post-harvest management. Our endeavour will help realise the government’s aim of linking agricultural production to the market by bringing together farmers, processors and retailers. This move will undoubtedly minimise wastage, increase farmers’ income and create employment opportunities, particularly in the rural sector.

You are catering to the needs of the food sector in the Indian market with a range of products. Elaborate.
Our company has always been a solution provider with its innovative products, we have more than 200 products in our portfolio, our ready-to-cook gravies have helped cloud kitchens to standardise their taste and quality. Our products have also helped in minimising the wastage of raw material, Our international flavour of condiments like harissa, chipotle, piri piri have helped food chains to enhance their offerings.

You are exploring new avenues by entering the bar syrup category. Explain.
Cremica and Maison Routin bring 130 plus years of legacy by launching original French syrups since 1883. All the flavours have been specially created and jointly developed by Maison Routin of France and Cremica Foods. Bonheur Syrups offer diverse range and specially formulated to offer intensity and creativity in the entire range.

These syrups have been designed to bring out the best of French aromatic experiences, tailor made for the Indian market.

Tell us about your expansion plans. How do you see the growth within the food processing sector?
Our expansion plans include adding new products and services to our product mix and expanding into new territories. The idea here is to market and sell our existing products and services to new customers.

India's food ecosystem offers huge opportunities for investments with stimulating growth in the food retail sector, favourable economic policies and attractive fiscal incentives. We believe the food processing sector will grow at a uniform pace in coming years.
