Marico to acquire 60% stake in Cosmix, enters clean-label nutrition space

Marico Ltd has announced the acquisition of a 60 percent stake in Cosmix, a fast-growing clean-label nutrition and wellness brand, marking a strategic expansion of the FMCG major into the premium health and nutrition segment. The transaction is aligned with Marico’s long-term focus on building a diversified portfolio beyond its core categories of hair care and packaged foods.

Cosmix is known for its plant-based, clean-label nutritional products, including protein blends, wellness mixes and supplements targeted at health-conscious urban consumers. The brand has built a strong digital-first presence, particularly among millennials and Gen Z customers seeking transparency, functional nutrition and minimal processing.

While the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, Marico said the acquisition will enable it to tap into the rapidly expanding wellness and nutrition market in India, which is witnessing increasing demand driven by lifestyle changes, rising health awareness and preventive healthcare trends.

Following the acquisition, Cosmix will continue to operate as an independent brand, leveraging Marico’s extensive distribution capabilities, supply chain strength and marketing expertise to scale operations. The founding team of Cosmix is expected to remain involved in the business to drive product innovation and brand-led growth.

Marico has, in recent years, been sharpening its focus on emerging categories such as healthy foods, digital-first brands and premium personal care, as part of its broader transformation strategy. The Cosmix acquisition complements this approach by adding a high-growth, purpose-driven brand to its portfolio.

Industry experts believe the move reflects a larger trend among established FMCG players seeking strategic stakes in nimble, new-age brands to accelerate entry into high-margin, future-ready segments such as nutrition, wellness and functional foods.

With this acquisition, Marico strengthens its positioning in the evolving consumer health ecosystem, while Cosmix gains the backing of a large FMCG player to expand reach, scale manufacturing and deepen its presence across channels, including e-commerce, modern trade and select offline retail formats.
