French retail giant Carrefour India has announced the appointment of Amritraj Kaur as head of marketing, a strategic hire ahead of the company’s long-anticipated re-entry into the Indian market, with its first store launch slated for April 2026. The move underscores Carrefour’s intent to build a consumer-led, omnichannel retail strategy as it returns to India nearly 12 years after exiting the market.
Kaur brings over 17 years of extensive experience in marketing, brand building, and omnichannel retail. Her career spans senior leadership roles across India’s top retail and FMCG companies, reflecting deep expertise in driving growth, shaping brand strategy, and leading customer engagement initiatives. Prior to joining Carrefour India, she served as Chief Business Officer at BnC Foods Pvt. Ltd. (From The House of Chalu) and held key positions at LOTS Wholesale Solutions, Best Price Flipkart Wholesale, Walmart, Future Group, Amira Foods, and Spencer’s Retail.
At LOTS Wholesale Solutions, Amritraj played a pivotal role in launching the company’s first two-tier loyalty programme, implementing marketing automation, strengthening digital customer acquisition, and supporting large-format store openings. During her tenure at Best Price, she led pan-India marketing for a business generating significant turnover, delivering ROI-driven campaigns and cost efficiencies. Her earlier leadership roles at Future Group saw her managing regional marketing for 24 Big Bazaar and fbb stores, further reinforcing her command over retail marketing in diverse consumer environments.
Kaur’s foundational years at Amira Foods are remembered for product innovation, notably launching India’s first single-serve basmati rice packs — an initiative that rapidly drove market adoption and brand visibility. Her cross-sector experience encompasses category development, CRM, MarTech deployments, go-to-market strategy, and building high-performing teams.
In her new role, Amritraj Kaur will lead Carrefour India’s marketing strategy, focusing on customer engagement, loyalty programmes, digital marketing, and omnichannel presence, aligning the brand’s global strengths with local consumer preferences. As Carrefour prepares to open its doors in 2026, her appointment is expected to play a central role in shaping the company’s brand positioning and market relevance in India’s competitive retail landscape.
