A new category honouring innovations by farmers in the field of mechanisation was introduced at the 2018 essay of the Mahindra Samriddhi India Agri Awards (MSIAA), organised recently by Mahindra and Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Sector, India’s leading tractor manufacturer.
This was the eighth essay of the honours, which were instituted in 2011, to recognise the purposeful contributions of farmers and institutions to the field of agriculture. Mahindra also utilised the Samriddhi Awards platform to reinforce its commitment to Farming 3.0, the new age in Indian agriculture which will be defined by innovation and technology. As a part of this, the company has pioneered such technological innovations as MyAgriGuru and Trringo.
The objective of Farming 3.0, which was unveiled at the seventh edition of the Samriddhi Awards last year, is to make agriculture sustainable through initiatives that will balance productivity and economics with social and environmental considerations. Radha Mohan Singh, minister of agriculture, was the chief guest at the awards ceremony, while ministers of state for agriculture Parshottam Rupala, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Krishna Raj were the guests of honour. The Mahindra Samriddhi Krishi Shiromani Samman (Lifetime Achievement Award) 2017 was conferred upon Deepak Pental for his contribution to research and development in crop cultivation, particularly mustard and cotton.
Anand Mahindra, executive chairman, Mahindra Group, said, “The Mahindra Samriddhi India Agri awards is our humble endeavour to recognise our true heroes. It gives me great pleasure to celebrate the tireless efforts of India’s biggest change agents - our farmers and agri institutions.”
“With their immense contribution, we are truly ushering in a new wave in Indian agriculture and will continue to partner the government in various initiatives to secure farmer income and drive farm tech prosperity,” he added. Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, said, “Over the years, Mahindra Samriddhi India Agri Awards has been recognising the indomitable spirit of the Indian farmer and institutions for their contributions to the agriculture sector, and today, I would like to congratulate all the winners.”
He added, “As India’s leading tractor manufacturer for over 32 years, Mahindra is committed to Farming 3.0, the new age of farming that encompasses a range of new and advanced techniques to elevate the entire agri-ecosystem.”
“As we usher in this new era in farming, I am confident that there will be a monumental shift in the way farming is done in India and perhaps the world over. At Mahindra, we will continue to motivate the farming fraternity with initiatives such as the Mahindra Samriddhi India Agri Awards,” Goenka said.
The Mahindra Samriddhi India Agri Awards initiative is an extension of Mahindra’s Samriddhi initiative, which aims to enhance agricultural productivity through innovative farming technologies, thereby leading to an increase in rural prosperity.
Several Mahindra dealerships have been transformed into Samriddhi Centres offering the farmer easy access to technological know-how, hybrid seeds, soil and irrigation water testing facilities, demo farms, finance and insurance and Internet updates, apart from sales and service of tractors and advanced implements. MSIAA 2018 details MSIAA 2018 received 62,797 nominations from the farmer/non-farmer category across the country, which is a five per cent per cent growth over the previous year. Till date, more than 3.2 lakh farmers have participated in the awards.
