ICBA and Al Rostamani group unveil advanced research and training facilities to boost UAE’s sustainable agriculture goals
Saturday, 15 November, 2025, 12 : 00 PM [IST]
Dubai, UAE
In a major step toward advancing agricultural innovation and food security, the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) and Al Rostamani Group inaugurated new world-class facilities, including a training and knowledge transfer building, a plant tissue culture laboratory, and an integrated agri-aquaculture system, at ICBA’s headquarters in Dubai.

Fully funded by the Al Rostamani Group, the facilities were inaugurated in the presence of H.E. Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, marking a milestone in the UAE’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and climate resilience. The inauguration follows the foundation ceremony held in September 2024, reinforcing the country’s leadership in science-driven agricultural transformation.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Amna Al Dahak said, “The inauguration of ICBA’s new research and training facilities marks a significant moment for agricultural innovation in the UAE. ICBA has played a vital role in our National Food Security Strategy 2051 by pioneering solutions for saline and arid environments. We thank the Al Rostamani Group for its catalytic investment that enhances ICBA’s capabilities. This collaboration is a model for how private sector capital and expertise can help translate national food security goals into tangible progress.”

Dr. Tarifa Ajeif Al Zaabi, director general of ICBA, highlighted that the new facilities will serve as a hub for collaboration among farmers, researchers, and policymakers. “Our goal is for every innovation developed here to contribute to stronger, more resilient food systems and to communities that can thrive despite challenges,” she said.

H.E. Marwan Abdulla Al Rostamani, Chairman of Al Rostamani Group, expressed pride in the collaboration, stating, “These facilities are pivotal to advancing the UAE’s strategic objectives in environmental and agricultural sustainability. Our support reflects our long-standing commitment to social responsibility, sustainability, and innovation.”

The new infrastructure includes a multipurpose training center for up to 300 participants, a Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory for the propagation of crops like date palms and mangroves, and an Integrated Agri-Aquaculture System for sustainable food and water research. Together, these initiatives represent a major step toward a more sustainable, knowledge-driven agricultural ecosystem in the UAE and beyond.
