Renu Dalal, the daughter of renowned chef, cookbook author and television presenter Tarla Dalal, launched her first cookbook, titled Modern Vegetarian Recipes, at Crossword bookstore at Mumbai’s Kemps Corner on her mother’s birth anniversary.
The book was the result of Tarla Dalal’s demise, which led to a vacuum in her children’s lives. Renu Dalal’s gratitude to her mother resulted in these recipes, which she experimented with her own kitchen and penned.
She is also widely-travelled, and that is another factor that fuelled her passion to create vegetarian options to cater to the modern palate. The recipes are inventive, simple and easy to follow.
They are perfect fusion of two styles of cooking - namely the eastern style and the western style - and have been authored keeping in mind the diverse age group, which comprises kids and adults, both young and old.
The book is divided into five sections, namely starters, salads, main course, desserts and basic recipes. Some of the starters could be eaten either as a main course or as a wholesome midday snack.
The salads are easy to make and cover a wide spectrum of ingredients. A number of the main dishes represent global cuisines made with locally-available ingredients. The dessert section includes ice cream.
Renu Dalal expressed her excitement at the launch of her cookbook. She stated, “I took my first cooking class during my growing-up years. My parents loved hosting family and friends over, and we used to follow the tradition of not repeating the same menus.”
“Trying out new and innovative dishes has been a tradition in our family, and it is indeed a great moment for me to have penned some of the tastiest, healthiest, quickest and easiest-to-prepare recipes, which I am sure all will enjoy,” Renu Dalal added.
The event witnessed the patrons sampling such recipes as paneer wraps, baked peach yoghurt, couscous and lentil salad and asparagus mousse. The book is available at leading bookstores across India, as well as on Amazon India.
