The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) will conduct a seminar on strategies for enhancing the productivity of indigenous cattle on July 1, 2017. It is slated to take place in the campus of the Southern region station at Adugodi in Bengaluru.
The objective of the event is to help evolve new research approaches for the conservation of indigenous cattle, enhancement of their productivity and the utilisation of desi milk. The recommendations can be also used by the research and development (R&D) institutions to augment research in these areas.
The event will comprise two technical sessions, covering strategies to evolve new research areas on the breed and developing milk-based products.
The alumni of ICAR-NDDB has been looking at the present and future of value addition of dairy foods.
India is blessed with a huge bovine population reared under diverse production system and agro climatic conditions.
Indigenous cattle are well suited to the tropical climate. The breed is able to resist the heat stress, needs less water, can walk long distances, survive on local grasses and resist tropical diseases.
These cattle have the ability to sustain productivity under low inputs, which makes them a crucial backbone of the country’s rural economy.
