BIHR inks MoU with India’s International Institute of Hotel Management

Hatim Dadabai, managing director, Bahrain Institute of Hospitality and Retail (BIHR), revealed that BIHR recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Institute of Hotel Management, IIHM in Kolkata, India. It focused on providing mutual benefits between the parties’ academic communities.

The two institutes agree to provide mutual exchange of students’ through a Study Abroad Programme and Internship, Faculty Exchange Programme, Collaboration in Research Projects and Industrial Training. Their tie-up was a value addition to both organisations to mutually obtain its vision in promoting hospitality and tourism worldwide.

Nigel Viegas, executive director, BIHR, stated, “The partnership’s aim to internationalise the students’ experiences and to provide theoretical and applied learning at an internationally-recognised standard is a great leap to ensure productive and innovative graduates in the fields of hospitality and tourism.”

He added that currently, the institute has a population of 200 Bahrainis and international students, with 35 students from India and 16 other countries, including Nepal, Sri Lanka, Philippines and Bangladesh.

Suborno Bose, chief executive officer, IIHM, India, stated, “This milestone will take the IIHM’s objective of providing vocational training for the unskilled and semi–skilled populace of India to another height.”

“With IIHM expanding to the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), it is a huge step to realise every individual’s dream to obtain a guaranteed job placement overseas,” he added.

The exchange programme will broaden the academic and social experience of students and promote alliances between host and overseas institutions, while the presence on campus of both exchange students and faculty members from the overseas partner will diversify the student population and encourage local students the benefits of an international educational experience.
