Mumbai to host second essay of ProWein Education campaign from Sept 18

The second essay of the ProWein Education Campaign is slated to take place at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC), Mumbai, between September 18 and 20, 2019. It will be held in association with All Things Nice and WSET (Wine and Spirits Education Trust), and will offer visitors to Food and Hotel India (FHI) tastings, workshops, discussion forums and presentations on wines and spirits. ProWein is the world’s leading trade fair for wine and spirits.

All Things Nice and WSET have curated the masterclasses at the ProWein Education Campaign (the registration for which commences at 10am). All Things Nice is one of the leading marketing and consulting agencies for wine and spirits in India. A close cooperation has existed with WSET for many years in the area of education, especially as part of ProWein China in Shanghai.

The programme of the ProWein Education Campaign specifically addresses Indian wine importers, professionals from the HoReCa (hotel, restaurant and cafe) segment, sommeliers, wine and spirits experts, writers and professionals from the wine and spirits trade.

Last year’s event included a seminar on the theme of cognac, a blind tasting of Indian and international wines, a lecture on the perfect wine venue and a panel discussion on HR matters in the hospitality industry. This year too, the organisers have planned events revolving around sensory and aromatic themes as well as wine and culinary offers.

There will be eight master classes being held at the ProWein Education Campaign. The schedule for these is as follows:

September 18
Bubbles Bubbles Everywhere (between 11:30am and 1pm)
Nikhil Agarwal, sommelier and chief executive officer, All Things Nice, will introduce the attendees to champagne, Cava, Prosecco, Cremant and other bubbly drinks. The patrons can taste and understand the differences in the methods of production, flavour and aroma characteristics covering a range of styles from countries across the world.

Mastering Maturation: Rioja (between 2pm and 3:30pm)
With a key focus on viticulture and techniques used in the winery to improve flavour and intensity, our WSET-certified educator will demonstrate how to build on the attendees’ maturation knowledge in line with WSET qualifications.

Water Session (between 4:30pm and 6pm)
This presentation will be made by Ganesh Iyer, water sommelier and director operations, India and India Sub, Veen Waters.

September 19, 2019
Assessing Quality – Chablis (between 11:30am and 1pm)
When assessing quality, what makes a wine outstanding versus just acceptable? This session with explains how to use WSET’s Systematic Approach to Tasting to make objective conclusions about wine quality.

Hola Espana (between 2pm and 3:30pm)
Agarwal will take the attendees through a range of regions, grape varietals and wines from Spain made by passionate wine makers who work hard to serve up great quality and a lot of value in their wine offerings.

Sparkling Chenin Blanc: Same but different? (between 4:30pm and 6pm)
Using WSET’s Systematic Approach to Tasting, Amrut Vare will look at three methode champenois Chenin Blancs that all come from different regions, and identify and explain the differences between them.

September 20, 2019
The Gin is King Blind Tasting or The Gin MasterClass (between 11:30am and 1pm)

Agarwal will teach the attendees the history of gin, which is going through a renaissance and taking the world by storm. They will also decipher a range of botanicals and the differences in styles from leading producers from across the globe.

Varietal Focus – Sauvignon Blanc (between 2pm and 3:30pm)
In this WSET course taster session, WSET educator Karan Vaswani will show a flight of three Sauvignon Blancs and explaining the differences in the style based on vineyard, winery and maturation practices.
