The MoFPI (Ministry of Food Processing Industries) and the Ministry of Women and Child Development will jointly organise an organic food festival at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, between February 21-23, 2020.

It will have interactive sessions for the participating entrepreneurs to make them aware about the market linkages and opportunities and schemes run by MoFPI.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal, minister for food processing industries, stated that the focus of the event would be to provide the organic farmers and entrepreneurs access to the opportunities the domestic market provides.

“Currently the market size of the organic produce is Rs 27,000 crore, which is expected to grow to Rs 75,000 crore in the next five years. So, we, in India, have such a big untapped market available with us, and the entrepreneurs can expand and take advantage of it,” she said, while interacting with the press here.

Badal informed that this is the first time her ministry was holding this festival focussing on women entrepreneurs. The agenda will be to study what organic food is being produced in the country and what kind of processing is being done in the organic sector.

She added that this event will provide opportunities to the farmers, producers, and entrepreneurs to get more buyers and linkages to market for their produce. There will be interactive sessions in which farmers and producers can get an idea about how to improve the quality of their produce and get market access.

Badal informed that a total of 150 women entrepreneurs will participate in the first event. Ten states and Union Territories (UTs), including Haryana, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, Sikkim, Karnataka and Ladakh, have confirmed their participation. Also, individual entrepreneurs are expected to participate.

She added that her ministry planned to hold such festivals every month at different venues across the country.
