The second edition of a blue paper, titled European Food Safety Trends, Key Issues and Perspectives, was launched in Mumbai recently by a team representing Mérieux NutriSciences, one of the world’s largest networks of laboratories.
It covers the food and nutrition, agrochemical, pharma and cosmetics industries and operates over 100 labs in 22 countries, employing about 7,000 employees and offering a wide range of services, including analysis, auditing and consulting, to every step of the food supply chain.
The team that launched the blue paper comprised Philippe Sans, the company’s global chief executive officer, Renaud Jonquières, its vice-president, MEA ASPAC, Dr Pankaj Jaiminy, its managing director, India and its marketing team.
Priced at 189 Euro and available in both soft and paper formats, it is the reference book for food industry quality managers. It provides scientific data with a food matrices approach in the form of infographics.
More than merely addressing key facts from the year, the current edition contained a new range of topics that have been in the news recently, such as antibioics resistance, food-borne viruses, nanoparticles, mycotoxins and salmonella.
In his address, Jonquières said, “With the very positive feedback we received from the food industry and the scientific community, and given the high food safety actuality in 2017, it became obvious that we had to prepare the second edition of our blue paper.”
“Food safety is a very important issue. We eat food everyday, but had the tendency in the past to take its quality for granted. However, we are now noticing a change in the consumers’ mindset - they are now becoming more aware and concerned, and want to know how safe the food they eat is,” he added.
