The Egyptian Codex Committee, operating under the Egyptian Organisation for Standardisation and Quality (EOS), celebrated World Food Safety Day on July 8, 2025. The event was held under the theme ‘Food Safety: Science in Action’ and took place alongside the 388th meeting of the Egyptian Codex Committee.
Dr Khaled Soufi, chairman of the Egyptian Organisation for Standardisation and Quality (EOS) and Egyptian Codex, and president-elect of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) for 2026, emphasised that the celebration reflects the committee’s active role in supporting national food safety policies. He reaffirmed the commitment of the EOS to consumer protection and the continuous enhancement of food product quality through the regular updating of national food standards in line with the latest Codex Alimentarius texts.
He further noted that achieving food security begins with effective collaboration among all stakeholders—regulatory authorities, manufacturers, and consumers—within an integrated system that places prevention at the core of its approach.
The event brought together leading figures and experts in food safety, food manufacturing, and public health, as well as representatives from export councils and international organisations such as FAO and WHO.
The celebration featured a series of discussions and presentations on key themes, including: the role of science in advancing research and knowledge to ensure food safety; the role of investment in supporting scientific research and its impact on industrial development; the development of food exports and the role of standards and legislation in enhancing them; the role of the joint FAO/WHO Food Safety Scientific Advice Programme in promoting the message of World Food Safety Day.
Through such initiatives, Egypt continues to demonstrate its commitment to strengthening food safety systems in alignment with international standards and in service of public health and economic growth.
