The Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA), under the auspices of its SEA Rapeseed-Mustard Promotion Council, will host SEA's Rapeseed-Mustard Conclave 2017 at Jaipur Marriott Hotel on March 24 and 25. The theme of the event is Production Through Productivity to Reach Ten Million Tonnes. This is the first edition of the conclave.
Rape-mustard seed is at the heart of the population in the heartlands of India, and its oil is the preferred oil across northern and eastern India. Rape-mustard constitutes a very important stature in the group of rabi oilseed crops of India, and its production levels vis-a-vis other rabi oilseed crops determine the price flow of all oilseeds in the second half of the oil-year season.
A lot of work has been done to promote its cultivation, yet its production has ranged between six and seven-and-a-half million tonnes in the last decade. Rape-mustard seed is a high-oil content crop, and there is a urgent need to increase its production in the country.
With the ever-increasing demand for food crops, there is an increase in the fight for acreage. Therefore the only way forward to have increased production is to have an increase in productivity. India needs at least 10 million tonnes of rape-mustard seed to meet its growing oil demand and also its meal demand for cattle feed.
SEA, in its attempt to bring the rape-mustard seed, oil and meal fraternities together, has organised the conclave to deliberate and focus on the issues before the industry, farmers and trade and also to arrive at the solutions by fruitful interactions with eminent speakers and panel members from across India.
The event, at which over 300 delegates and special invitees from all over the country will gather, will provide an unique opportunity to discuss and exchange views about the issues pertaining to rape-mustard oil and meal and international and national businesses and find solutions to the problems faced by the manufacturers, importers and exporters, technologists, players from the commodity exchanges, brokers and dealers.
It will feature a presentation on the findings of the Rape-Mustard Crop Survey-2016-17, conducted in key rape-mustard growing states by Nielsen (India) Pvt Ltd, and a panel discussion titled Rape-Mustard - Seed, Oil & Meal Price Outlook-2017. The panel will comprise eminent Indian speakers from the business and trade.
