FSSAI’s interim chairperson - Preeti Sudan; Ashish Bahuguna steps down

Union health secretary Preeti Sudan has been given interim charge of chairperson, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). An office order issued recently stated that upon retirement of Ashish Bahuguna, who was the chairman earlier, the health secretary was given additional charge of the chairperson, FSSAI.
Sudan is a 1983 batch IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved entrustment of the interim charge of the FSSAI chairperson to Preeti Sudan, the secretary, department of health and family welfare, with effect from July 28, 2018, the order said.
Bahuguna, a retired IAS officer and former Union agriculture secretary, was appointed as chairman of the apex food regulator in July 2015 soon after the controversial action of banning Nestle’s instant noodles Maggi, which created uproar and a series of litigations were followed between the regulator and Nestle.
