Maha State sets up agri directorate in Nashik
Wednesday, 15 September, 2021, 08 : 00 AM [IST]
Kimberley Fernandes, Mumbai
Maharashtra State agriculture department has set up a food and agriculture processing directorate in Nashik city. The sole purpose of this directorate is to focus on boosting the food and agricultural sector in Maharashra.

Eknath Dawale, secretary, agriculture department- Maharashtra, explained that the agriculture department’s aim is to achieve a target of about Rs 10,000 crore in investments in the next few years.

The agriculture department’s decision to set up a directorate in Nashik was caused due to tomato farmers dumping their produce when the prices dropped. The solution to this problem, according to the agriculture department, will be to increase the value of fruits and vegetables being cultivated by the farmers.

The directorate has been strategically set up in Nashik and will be responsible for aggressively promoting the products to increase value and gain investments.

Sunil Pawar, managing director of Maharashtra State Agriculture Marketing Board, explained that huge inconsistencies in the demand and supply of agricultural products have been recorded, hence, investments and value addition of agricultural products is the best solution.
