Traders in Maharashtra have opposed the GST department's door to door verification drive starting from May 16.
The traders fear that this drive could lead to their harassment.
Shankar Thakkar, president of the All India Edible Oil Traders’ Confederation, and state general secretary of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has stated that the proposed door to door verification drive by the GST department may lead to harassment of businesses, as the verification of the businesses is done prior to the allotment of the GST number to the business.
“Those companies which are already verified at the time of GST number allotment, why are they subjected to re-verification,” asked Thakkar and added that this may result in harassment of businesses.
Thakkar has said that if the department finds some case of 'misinvoicing' then they should act as per individual case instead of subjecting all the businesses to go through the entire process.
Similarly the GST department has directed the companies having turnover of Rs 5 crore to issue e-invoice of the B2B transactions from August 1. Until now this was mandatory for companies having turnover of over Rs 10 crore.
Government has also issued a notification in this regard wherein it has prescribed that if e-invoicing is not done then it would attract Rs 50,000 fine on each invoice.
The traders also opposed the move.
CAIT Maharashtra state president Mahesh Bakhai has said that the turnover does not always mean profit. He added that the reduction of limit for e-invoicing may lead to inspector raj and any additional cost burden may be passed on to the consumers.
