PepsiCo India has resized its packaging for its flagship snacks brands Lay’s and Kurkure to reduce its carbon footprint significantly. And to further provide value to its consumers, the company has launched upgraded variants with reduced sodium of its best-selling Lay’s flavours, Indian Magic Masala and Spanish Tomato Tango.
Adapting to changing consumers taste profiles, the new two new variants of Lay’s are now available with a better enhanced mix of spices. They contain 13-15 per cent lesser sodium. This is in addition to its recently-launched Kurkure Multigrain with Power grain Ragi, which contains 21 per cent reduced sodium.
Committed to contributing to a greener India, the company is continuously transforming its snacks portfolio in line with its global sustainability agenda of Performance with Purpose.
Commenting on the development, Jagrut Kotecha, vice-president, snacks category, PepsiCo India Ltd, said, “As a responsible snacking company, PepsiCo India has made significant progress in transforming its snacks portfolio.”
“We have reduced sodium by 5-25 per cent across popular variants of our snacks flagship brands, Lay’s and Kurkure, and we further aim at reducing sodium in 75 per cent of our foods portfolio by 2025,” he added.
In line with our Performance with Purpose goals for 2025, we are working to reduce the impact of our packaging on the environment and increase recycling of plastic waste,” Kotecha said.
“The first step towards the actualisation of this journey is the resizing of the packaging of our brands, Lay’s and Kurkure. This will significantly help us in reducing our carbon footprint, thereby contributing towards a greener India,” he added.
