In a major crackdown on food adulteration, food safety officials seized 18,000 litres of suspicious ghee during a raid at a dairy processing facility in Udaipur.
Acoording to reports, the food safety officials acting on a tip-off, inspected the premises of a dairy processing plant.
During the search, authorities recovered unlabelled tins and artificial food colouring. Investigators suspect the operators were mixing yellow colouring into standard fat products to deceptively market and sell them as premium, pure cow desi ghee.
The enforcement drive expanded to another location near agricultural mandi, where inspectors raided a trading company.
Reports added that over 42,000 kilograms of diverse dairy products were placed under official investigation.
The team also confiscated stocks of a specific brand, which had previously been flagged and declared unsafe by food safety regulators.
Food safety officials confirmed that multiple food samples from both locations have been sent to a laboratory for urgent analysis and strict legal action will be initiated under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, if products were found violating norms.
