4th Edition of India Food Safety Conclave concludes

The 4th Edition of the India Food Safety Conclave (IFSC 2026) organized by the Innovative Food Foundation in partnership with Food Safety Works and the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC), brought together over 200 food safety executives, regulatory officials, researchers, and technology innovators. They addressed the future of food safety, AI adoption, label transparency, and food safety culture.
Centred around the theme "Navigating Food Safety in the New World of Health & Wellness," this year’s conclave highlighted emerging regulatory standards, AI-driven quality assurance, label transparency, and scientific advancements reshaping the Indian food ecosystem.
Karnataka Food and Drugs Administration Commissioner Srinivas K, inaugurated the conclave, emphasizing the government's commitment to strict quality compliance, consumer protection, and continuous dialogue between regulators and food businesses.
Dr. K. Madhavan Nair, Former Assistant Director at the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), delivered a keynote presentation on Responsible Nutrition. He spoke about the double burden of mal-nutrition coexistence of under-nutrition (i.e., micronutrient deficiencies, underweight, childhood stunting and wasting) along with overweight, obesity or diet-related NCDs, within individuals, households and populations and across the life-course. He highlighted the importance of food synergy to enhance bioavailability.
The launch of the 4th Edition of Label Awareness Survey Report saw Food Safety Works unveiled the official findings of the nationwide online survey. The survey found that women tend to read the label more carefully but are wary of raising a complaint. There was also a significant fall in customer tendency to check labels while shopping online vs the store. Overall awareness about the label has increased over the years.
The day-long conclave featured panel discussions and expert presentations across four high-impact verticals: Science of Food where it focused on evidence-based biochemistry, functional ingredients, clean-label stabilization, and targeted nutrient delivery systems. The theme on AI & Technology Applications in Food explored machine learning algorithms, predictive modelling for QA/QC workflows, real-time processing optimization, and accelerating clean-label reformulations.
In the session on Compliance in Emerging Food Categories focused on regulatory hurdles around novel, functional, and adaptogenic ingredients, structure-function claims, and evolving standards across global and Indian frameworks.
The Food Safety Culture Awards recognized MSMEs, food manufacturers, HoReCa enterprises, and ingredient providers that successfully embed food safety as a core cultural and operational value.
The event also featured the Poster Presentation Contest, an initiative designed to connect university researchers and young scholars directly with industry decision-makers. Students and academic teams showcased cutting-edge solutions spanning supply chain automation, demand forecasting, AI integration, and sustainable packaging.
According to Dr. Shashikanth Kunigal, Principal Trustee, Innovative Food Foundation, "Food safety is no longer just a regulatory checkbox—it is a fundamental pillar of consumer trust and brand longevity in today’s wellness-driven economy. IFSC 2026 demonstrated that through collaboration across regulators, industry pioneers, and academia, we can build a resilient, transparent, and technology-enabled food safety ecosystem in India."
